A problem with PS2...Follow

My brother plays FF11 on his PS2 and we just had bought MK:Deception for it but it kept saying "Can not read disk". So we put it up its side to see if that fixes it, but nope. My question is, if we go get another PS2 and place the hard drive in the new one will it work? Or will we have to buy a new copy of FF 11 again?
