FFXI Game freezeFollow

Since I first started playing FFXI Ive been having problems with my game freezing somewhat at random, USUALLY in places where Lots of players gather to level (Dunes, Kor. Tunnle, Quifim, and Kazham) But it is not limited to those places. It will often freeze up randomly in low occupied places like Bastok. But its not a simple Freeze and your done. It will Freeze and stay frozen, it will never return to gameplay without a hard system reboot.

I have checked, not only my computer, but the playonline and FFXI files, all of which are free of Errors.

Now I run
Pentium 4 with HT (3 GHZ)
Microsoft XP (with S.P. 2)
1 gig of Ram
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
DirectX 9.0
and 60G free space on my HD.

My system should be laughing at FFXI trying to even rank up with it.. Yet FFXI is completly demolishing it. o_O
Is there any information you can give me on how to remedy this situation?

I have not been running SP2 since I installed FFXI. It was installed a few days after.

Try uninstalling SP2 and see if that fixes it. SP2 has been known to cause gaming issues, one of the main reasons I've not downloaded or installed it yet.

Ok, quick question before doing so.

Add/remove programs "Windows Service pack 2" Remove, and thats it? Or is there more?

That sounds about right. It would be good to set a system restore point before removing though.

i am having the same exact problem with my ffxi as you are. It will freeze at random points and i need to reboot my computer

i have a:
HP Pavillion zd7000 notebook
3.02ghz procesor, pentium 4, with hyper threading
512 mb of ram
20 gig of harddrive space left
microsift xp pro with SP2(had this problem even before SP2)
Directx 9.0 as well
NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5600 128mb

My freezing does seem to happen in high clutter areas more, like my chara will stop moving and then the music will repeat itself and nothing will move until i restart my computer

Rahman, you have a GeForce so go to nvidias website for driver downloads.

It is a good sized download, but it does all the work for you.

You should get in the habit of doing this every few months.

Device Manager
Display Adaptors
**doubleclicked his graphics card** **new window opens**
Driver
Update Driver

But I also have a ATI Radeon card.. so it might not work for you...

Whenever you're having difficulties with any game, it's always best to make sure your drivers are up to date. If it doesn't fix it, or god forbid makes it worse, at least with WinXP, you can roll back your drivers.

to update your drivers just go to http://www.ati.com/, get the latest catylist driver, then follow the instructions.

Also, try defragging your hard drive. if it is fragmented enough that can cause the same effect. The 9600 isn't that high power of a card, you may need to turn the graphics down a bit. Are you running in higher than 1024 x 768 resolution?
