Problems with router.Follow

#1 Dec 04 2004 at 4:37 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, I have Satellite internet. I wanted to play FFXI on my PS2.
Well, I was told I needed a router and a NIC card. I went out and got a Cable/DSL 4-port Router by Linksys or something and a NIC Card.

I installed everything, but Im not sure how I go connecting to the PS2. Ive tried like everything but whenever I go to log on to PlayOnline, I always get a Network is busy or connection problems.

If you can help me I would be greatful. Thanks.

This could possibly be because you need to open up the ports to play FFXI. I don't know what ports are needed since fortunately for me, my router worked right outta the box.

How exactly do you open ports? Also what I don't understand is on my router I have a Internet Port and a 4 3 2 1 ports. So, 5 in total.

If I plug my modem cable into the internet port and the other end into the ethernet port in the back of my tower, I can use internet. Ive tried connecting to the PS2 doing that and other ways.

So if you can help further, Id be grateful.

you probably just need to update teh firmware on that router. go to www.linksys,com, plug in the model number and follow the instructions to upgrade it.

I went and downloaded the firmware for my router, but it doesn't want to upgrade or something. I follow the instructions what I get a like "No respone from server" or something along that line.

Maybe Im doing something wrong, but I don't know. >_<

Well, keep trying. *Most* routers can be set to auto update when you log into them. I know mine does, perhaps I'll try and see if it will update.

You'll need to login to your router. I don't know your specific IP address, but it willbe 192.168.?.? Check the booklet that came with it for more info. Mine is set to look for updates everytime you login to the router. Unfortunately I don't remember if I had to turn that on, or whether it was the default setting. Wish I could help more, my router is a Belkin, so I don't know how much of my info will pertain to you. Trust Kao though, he seems to know his sh[red][/red]it around here.

I was finally able to download the lastest firmware to my router and stuff. When I try to log onto FFXI, I still get the same problem. "Network is busy or there are connection problems".

Im all confused about all of this. Even directly connecting my modem to the PS2, I still get the same problem. If you can help, I would be greatful. Thanks.
