PlayOnline Error Code POL-1160Follow

Hey there,

I have already checked the sticky at the top of this forum for what this error code means, but didn't find it all too helpful. The description given was "Update server down," or something to that effect, but it doesn't look like it is. I have two computers running two copies of FFXI. One is going fine, no problems logging in. The other is getting this error.

Basically the error message in its entirity is:

Error Code: POL-1160
Network is busy or there are connection
problems. Please try again later or
verify that cables, networking devices,
and network settings are properly configured.

Now, I can 100% confidently say it was working fine last night (say, 20 hours ago) when I was playing, but now it is not. I logged on today and found myself updating to the latest PlayOnline patch and then after the download, it restarted PlayOnline, and I'm getting this error message. I have tried rebooting to reset any .dll's or RAM that the patch download may have temporarily offset, and I'm still getting the same result. This has been happening for the past 60-90 minutes, and I've been logging on and off my other computer just to make sure everything is still working there, to no avail. Both computers have internet connectivity, I've had a DOS prompt open the whole time on both computers to ping/tracert things so I know that the connection is still there.

Starting to get a bit desperate and lost now. :P

My modem (router) shouldn't be crapping out, though. My three computers all have internet access but it's just my main one that cannot log onto FFXI. I reformatted last night, going to reinstall everything after work today, I've already downloaded the POL update without troubles, so everything is looking up.

If it gets to the point where I've reinstalled everything and I'm still having the same problem, I think I'll throw my computer out my window. That seems to always fix everything - out of sight, out of mind.

Good to know I'm not the only one though. I'll post here again if I get it working tonight, just to let you know.

(I reformatted because I had a lot of other crap that was annoying me as well, this just kicked it in the butt for me to do it sooner than I was going to)
