Suddenly started having trouble with FFXI this morning after doing the latest Windows Update. My computer is still running win98 and i downloaded five new security packs. Now I wish I hadn't.

I have a fairly new wireless network setup but it has been working fine. the only thing that has changed was that Windows Update this morning... now I get a 'fatal error 6 in 00000000:0000ff00' when pol goes to fullscreen entering FFXI.

Anyone know what this is about? or how to remove windows security packs once they are installed? or anything i could try?

I switched my comp to a DMZ to try to bypass any new security measures the update may have put in place... but it didn't work.

thanks

No more updates available beyond the language ones for the menus.

I sent the Update tech help guys an e-mail describing the problem so maybe they will be able to suggest something. So far every tweak i have tried on my own has either cut all internet access or had no effect.

If anyone has a good idea, I'll give it a try... I have little faith in the tech help guys giving me a hand.

Setting up your computer in the DMZ won't fix anything if it's a software security measure. I know at least in Win2K and the XP line in the Add/Remove programs menu Windows updates are usually listed there so you can roll them back if they cause a problem.
