A few months ago i noticed my home page on Netscape and Internet Explorer had been changed to some search page and there was 7 icons on my desktop i had not put there. If i clicked on the icons it opened to the search engine page. I changed the home pages back to normal and deleted the icons. All was well for a few weeks then once again home pages changed. Icons were back but this time only 5. I looked in control panel and add/remove programs and sure enough that search engine was listed so i removed it. Have had no problems since then of my home page changing.

However i now have these 2 icons that come and go as they please. I can only right click on these as they do not open the search engine anymore. I ran a virus scan nothing there. Ran Webroot Spy Sweeper and found 3 hijackers aboard and removed them. Ran Ad-Aware took out a bunch of things. This should have stopped the ghost icons i figured but they still pop in and out. The icons can not be on 1 minute but on in another then gone again and so on.Sometimes days go by without seeing them. I have a HP Pavilion Desktop with Win XP Home version. I use Netscape 7.1 as my primary browser.

Any suggestions?
Thank you.

It's definately spyware.adware of some type. Try also downloading and using Spybot S&D.

Installed and ran spybot so we shall see what happens from this point. It is strange that these type of programs only have IE to be protected and never Netscape?

Thanks for your help Smiley: clap

Also, forgot to mention SpywareBlaster. it's a good program that blocks alot of stuff from IE, and a few things that are now targeting Mozilla.

Download Firefox, you'll forget all what Adaware/Spyware is.
