Nvidia drivers - FFxiFollow

#1 Apr 26 2005 at 4:59 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, I'm having a very annoying problem w/ driver updates, any help would be much appreciated.

To start off here is how my problem *happened*.
Firstly, transparent objects (when your invisable, avatars, etc) would have gaps in them; like lines and dots that shouldnt be there. I played with the settings and it would not go away.

Then I talked to a tech support guy via support chat on playonline.com and he told me to download a specific driver, something like 61.59 because that one was proven to work with FFxi. (the one he recomended would be an older one then I was using)

Well, I went to thier website and all you can download there is teh latest driver. I downloaded that and installed it. (first uninstalling my current display driver).

Magicaly the lines were gone. Now came a new problem. When ever some very fast animation** (for lack of better word) occurs, the game will temporarily freeze, then when it is over, the game will suddenly work almost perfectly again.
**like a critical hit or Mnk's boost

I heard I can find websites that archive video card drivers. If anyone knows of a trustworthy one please tell me. Also if anyone knows if this is not the problem, please tell me.

-Computer stats-
Operation system: Windows XP
Processor: AMD Athelon XP 3200+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2Ghz
Memory: 1024 MB RAM

Video Card: Nvidia GeForce FX 5200
Total Memory: 256 Mb
Version: 71.89

Your graphics card is a little on the old side. You can probably resolve this by disabling some of the more advanced graphics options, and tune your settings for performance instead of quality.

on another thread this guy says he has a 5700 and is encountering similar problems.

Also, lol, could you explain the driver cleaner? Is it already on my computer or do i have to go get it somewhere?

ugh :\ i tried the driver cleaner but it did not seem to help..

also its not my settings, I have messed w/ ffxi and my video card settings and it seems to have minimal effect on this problem.

I find this wierd because with a previous driver I never had these problems. I had the same video card on an older, slower computer, which got lag when 3+ people swarmed around me. So I upgraded to the new computer which I showed the stats of above.

Now the game in general runs much faster but this very annoying thing happens when I boost, I just also found out its very bad with bard songs.

Do I just need a better video card?

Or is there a way to download a previous driver? But I'm afraid then WoW wont work because I had to download a new driver for some reason to get it working smoothly.

Thanks for your help..

I would go ahead and get a newer video card.
Even if your 5200 did work properly, your system has the potential for much higher quality graphics with a newer card.

I've been using ATI cards for a while, but it should be easy to google for nvidia's previous driver releases.
