Warning: LONG

Ok, here's the story. About a month ago, I got a new video card, the Saphire Radeon X800 Pro 256 - a very nice card. I installed it, and my computer started giving a POST error, 2 short beeps, a pause, then 6 short beeps. I tried to look it up and could not what that POST error meant. I reset the machine, and it did not give the post error, so I chocked it up to a glitch and trucked on.

Well, that worked for a couple weeks, then the computer froze on day while I was playing FFXI. Completely froze. I had to use the switch on the back of the case to get the computer to turn off. I turned it back on and started getting that post error again. So, I reset it a few times until I did not get the error anymore, and the computer would not go anywhere from 5-15 minutes, then freeze up again. My first thought was to put back in the old card - I did and it still gave the POST error. So I put the new card back in, and figured I must have fried some connectior in the MoBo during installation, so I got a new one, identical to my old one (ASUS P4P800SE). I installed the new MoBo, and everything started up! ((I should have scanned for viruses first, but hey, I'll get to that later))

But not far into it, everything froze up again. So my next thought was that some of the RAM went bad. I have 3 sticks of PC3200 512MB DDR. I pulled them out and tested them singly in the MoBo. The computer froze up still on each one. The odds of all three sticks going bad all at the same time is pretty slim, so I threw them all back in and started up in Safe Mode. Safe Mode runs just fine. No locking up, but it's not like I can relaly operate i safe mode. What I did do is install some Virus and Adware scanners while in Safe mode. Found some spyware, found a virus, got rid of all of it, restarted. Computer still locks up. Just to see if it will lock up while in Safe Mode, I leave Safe Mode on overnight - doesn't lock up, not once has it locked up in safe mode, so I believe it to be a software problem, maybe caused by that virus.

At this point I am very frustrated. I am a new MoBo into this and I am still at square one. I decide to bite the bullet and Format and reinstall. Windows gets 99% done with formatting , then says the HD is damaged and it cannot format it. Ok, so I go get a new HD. Install the HD, install Windows, no problems yet. I get AIM on, Anti-virus stuff, update to SP2(which I have never had a problem with), and update all my drivers for various things. I am ready to install my games and I think this is through.

POL installs fine, but now it freezes on every update. Anyone have any ideas?

So ,everything works again except you are having trouble with pol updates?

Check that your firewalls aren't blocking the connection, get a book to read and just keep trying. The first patch after a new installation of any mmog will be a beast.

Added System Specs to top post. Dunno why I didn't the first time...

IRQ conflict - nope, I checked that in the BIOS.
Power Supply - not over heating, 450w, so it is defninately enough power
Heat Issues - I will look into this more and let you know
AGP Voltage Issue - I have no idea what this is, I will Google it and research it.

And it is now freezing on more than just the POL update. I am thinking it might be a heat issue, I will check out that next. Thanks for your help so far, Rate up^

Got it nailed, it was a CPU overheating problem. New Thermaltake HSF on the way. Thanks everyone for your help.
