FFXI Internet Connection QuestionFollow

I'm well aware of how technologically dunced I'm going to sound after I say this, but it's worth it.
I play FFXI on a PS2 in a VERY small town, so my internet isn't the most well known. It's from Aliant and it's technically ADSL. Now I know I needed to put in a ton of ID's and internet passwords and such to get into FFXI, but I was wondering if simply setting up the PS2 with any old connection, will it still work?
I'm living in a residence in another town now, and they provide DSL service to all residence free of charge. Would I be able to set up my PS2 with just a cable and be able to play on my character?
I don't have all the specifics so I don't know if it will work, or even if all I'd need would be a phone cord. Does it require a different type of cable to set it up? Or would just a phone cord do the trick?

Hey man I saw your post in the OoT, sorry I didn't get to it. I am trying to understand exactly what you are trying to do. Are you implying that you already have a computer hooked up with an ADSL connection? If you only have a PS2 and want to hook it directly up to the internet that will be different. Let me know what your current setup is as of right now and I will try to help you out.

Yeah, I got kicked out of that forum :P.

I'll try and clear this up some.

At home I had a ADSL connection, and was using that to play FFXI. It had a modem and I had to run a phone line into the wall, then into the modem. The modem connected to my PS2 with another cord, I'm not sure what it's called but it's a lot thicker than a phone cord.

Where I am now, they don't have the modems so I was wondering if I could just use a cord to connect the jack in the wall to my PS2.

You can tell if the jack is ethernet or phone by looking inside the jack itself.

There will be a series of little wires strung up and down. Count them. There will only be four if it is a regular phone jack, but if you see six go ahead and plug in your PS2 with an ethernet cable, it should work.

Ok thanks, I have a ethernet cable, and your right it looks just like a phone cord but much thicker.
So if I do have an etherned connection it should work just by plugging it in?
