Radeon 9250 - Having Severe IssuesFollow

#1 Jun 10 2005 at 6:37 PM Rating: Decent
I have the Radeon 9250 (128MB) card. It was working fine for the first 3 months. About 2 weeks ago, I started having problems.

When ever I log onto Finanl Fantasy XI, i get booted off. Either my screen will go black (system stays on - have to do a hard boot), sometime I get a VPU Recover Error, or a Full Screen mode error.

I have upgraded the driver to the 5.5 Catalyst, then back down to the 5.3 Catalyst (per the Square Enix Technician). I have upgraded the BIOS for my motherboard, checked for any and all viruses and spyware.

I have completely uninstalled the driver, and reinstalled it several times - and even uninstalled and reinstalled the game.

ATI is no help, because they did not manufacture it. Mad Dog Multimedia is the manufacture. They are no help either, as I cannot register the product, because I no longer have the box with the UPC code.

Any ideas on what to do to fix this problem, so I can get back on the game?

Does it happen on other games?

If yes then you may have a hardware problem (graphics card). If not then I think you're best bet is to re-install FFXI and/or Windows.

Thank you. After a reinstall of FFXI and the OS, it still did not work. I went ahead and replaced the card with a Radeon 7500. Funny thing is, I went a step down from a 9250 to 7500 and the graphics look better with the 7500.

Thanks again!
