I am using WinXP Pro.

How would I be able to manually change around the keyset such that I could type on a Dvorakish keyboard or if I want some key to refer to some other keystroke than normally intended?

I need to learn to touchtype on non-QWERTY keyboardsages.

Go to "control panel" -> "regional and language options" -> "languages" -> "details" -> "add".

You can add a US keyboard with Dvorak here and you can switch freely between them using the language bar that'll apear down near you systray. As for how accurate the layout actually is for DVORAK when you're using a QWERTY keyboard I'm not sure.

What if I want to change the layout of the keys to my own liking? For example, there are a few keys on my keyboard which I rarely use. Namely the one to the right of the right windows key. If I could change that to say Delete, I could do Ctrl+Alt+Delete quickly with one hand, etc. I like little optimizations.

I know it is possible to make your own layout on Linux. Actually, I've only used Debian and thankfully very rarely at that. Sidenote: configuring Debian is a *****.
