I already have a website created offline with stuff on it.

Can anybody recommend me any hosting companies? I did not do anything with scripting yet, however there is a possibility that I will not be lazy at some time in the future and will integrate it with javascript or the like. There are way too many hosting companies out there.

Also, what does it matter if it runs on Linux/Apache or Windows?

Can't help with a recommended hosting solution.

The only reason you'd want to look at what platform you'd be hosting on is if you have a particular interest in using any of the server side functionaility, if you're not planning on going much further than java-script it shouldn't be a problem.

It's better to get a static IP address and run the web server on an old computer out of your house. I don't know if you are in college, but they usually have some space set aside for account holders that is accessible from the web. Or ask any techie friends you have if they already have a server set up and can spare some bandwidth.

Platform might matter if you plan on doing any cgi scripting, but otherwise it doesn't. Many people use Linux for servers because it is typically more stable than Windows, but it's mostly a matter of personal preference.
