%THISDIRNAME% and Javascript FailureFollow

#1 Jul 07 2005 at 9:26 PM Rating: Decent
I recently had a little attack of adware that came in with a pop-up ad (anyone else who plays Ogame knows they come up with annoying frequency). I ran a scan with Ad-Aware, restarted, and apparently, something was removed that shouldn't have been.

Now, when I open up folders, the folder's name is %THISDIRNAME%, and javacript buttons no longer function. Kind of bothersome, since the button for Windows Update is a javascript button; yay Microsoft.

So any idea on how to fix this? It's a real pain, and all I see on the net is a lot of stuff that I quite honestly don't understand.

My system is running on Windows ME, by the way.

Willow, what browser are you using? I'm assuming IE since you mentioned popups. Have you thought about Firefox? I use it, and OGame never pops up on me, they're always blocked. I do believe that a not to old IE service pack included a popup blocker.

Well, regardless, I need to get my IE working; I can't even check out Debris Fields anymore. I heard Firefox was a memory hog, but ah well...Firefox might not fix my javascript issues at all.

Yeah, awesome. I wonder who the hell's been karma camping me. My rating's gone down 5 points in 3 days. More than 1.5k posts, that doesn't just happen.
