My comp somehow got a virus the other day, which shut the comp down everytime I got to windows. I started the system recovery process, since ffxi has down for 18hr I didnt think it would be a problem. Unfortunatly I cant seem to get the recovery cd to load. The option to boot cd first in BIOs setup is unavaible. I know I did this about a yr ago with out using bios to get the cd to load, but I cant remember. Does anyone know how to get a cd to load b4 windows?
Compaq Presario
Windows XP

/cough: BIOS!!!

The onry way I can think of getting the CD to load without BIOS is complex enough that it is not worth spending time on. And you'd have to have another OS such as Linux on there... >.>

Try hitting the 'Delete' Key for a while right after your press the power on button. When you get to BIOS, go to 'Boot Sequence' and change the CD drive to be first in order.

Also, ugh...why are you doing it the |-|ARD way? just press F8 or F6 for a while until you get to a screenage prompt which will let you select in which method to boot. Select Safe Mode and go and get yourself some antispyware and antivirusi...

Blowfin lataru will be more than happy to tell you what exactly.

Also, System REstore and System Recovery/Repair which uses the WinXP CD are two different things. System Restore will make your computaru act almost like it did a certain time before, while whatever you are doing is basically reinstalling all of the system stuff.

Sorry i meant system recovery, with the cds and all. And I do know theres a way to get the CD to load w/o BIOs, cause I got it to work last time I did system recovery.
I would try booting in safe mode but it now says system not fully installed -_-.

You should be able to set that kind of stuff from the BIOS no troubles.

But seriously, give compaq/HP a call, you've paid for their support and they know your computer better than anyone.
