I haven't been happy with the performance of my new XFX Geforce 6600GT graphics card since I installed it. I've tried every tweak in the book and although it runs FFXI fine I get the feeling I'm missing out on its full performance. I've just run the FFXI Benchmark v3 and return a score of 3066 in Hi-Res mode. I'm running the latest 77.77 drivers after updating the recommended 66.93 drivers to try to resolve some "choppy" grapfics withing the game. For example some of the trees in Windy have big holes in their trunks and mobs such as gobs have bits missing from their armour where I can see inside the frame of the mob.
I'd appreciate it if anyone with a similar card ( or any high spec card for that matter ) could run the benchmark and post their results. It would be interesting to see what other people's scores are and what I should expect when using a 6600GT.

Heh. I'm surprised that my Radeon 9800Pro did around 4300 in high res in that test.
I'd suggest you stay away from nVidia cards if you want FFXI to play well. FFXI is more a red camp game than green camp. It uses much more DirectX than it does OpenGL.
Though interesting thing is, my friend has a GeForce Ti4800...4x AGP...and it runs the game almost as well as mine does with onry around average 3 or so less FPS...which I find very tolerable.

Try using the software at http://drivercleaner.net and then reinstalling the drivers one more time. Also disable your sound card and see if it runs any better that way.
I have a 6600 Vanilla with an Athlon 3000+ ~2.1ghz and 512mb of DDR RAM. I got about 3050 on the Vana'diel Benchmark. The game runs excellent at the maximum frames (although there is often horizontal chop... suggestions?) and only slows down to around 25 fps in AH slash crowded areas.
I got around the same score as well on my 6600GT. Which is strange because this card runs everything else with no sweat. I downgraded drivers to that same driver set because I found out every driver afterwards was geared for more perfomance with PCIe. ( I have the AGP version)
I also get stupid skipping every now and then. It's not lag either.. just.. pauses and goes for a second.

9800pro and Athlon 64 3700+ benched high res at 5122.
I'm sure I could improve that with more ram but I haven't had the chance to get anymore yet.
