Can my computer run FFXI?Follow

#1 Sep 18 2005 at 7:42 PM Rating: Decent
Hi all, this is my first post. I was wondering if my computer can run the game. It's an older computer.

Specs:

MoBo: Asus A7N8x2.0

Processor: AMD 2400 (?) I thought. I just checked SYSINFO and it says --Processor x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 1 AuthenticAMD ~2004 Mhz.

RAEDON 9500 Pro (still a great card)

512 Ram/2GiG HD/Windows XP Pro.

Im not sure how you tell if its PCI or DDR.

If you can suggest low cost upgrades, I can do them myself, though its been awhile and I feel rusty when it comes to upgrading.

Any advice will be appreciated. I am looking forward to starting FFXI.

Thanks in advance.

Is that a typo or do you only have a 2 gig HD?

yes. It was built in 2000. Low cost gaming comp didnt need much more then.
I take it from your stunned silence I need alot more. What size drive do I need? I see 40 gig HDs on newegg aren't that expensive.

Yeah 40GB would be good but an 80GB is probably much better value for you.

FFXI takes up at least 4GB of space. Not to mention Windows XP takes up more than a GB by itself.

Apart from that your system should handle FFXI just fine.

Thankyou for the reply. Is there anythig else I need to make sure the game will run properly? I have read that upgrading the RAM is good for better playability. Again, how do I determine whether my comp is SDRAM or PCI?

Thank you.

Your board is DDR Compatible, if you google your motherboard model it's easy enought to figure out. There's various other ways to check such as the layout of the actual modules and the type of chipset you have on the board but it's easier just to google the model.

You should be fine with 512MB but if you have the spare pennies another 512MB would be ideal. As to what kind of RAM you shuld be looking at buying, you'll need to pull the existing modules out and check what they are aswell as checking how many spare RAM slots are in you machine

With HD buy the biggest you can afford. As newer games come out, they'll be more and more complex thus taking up more space. Sometimes I fear my 400 Gigs will be full someday.

For compatibility (if you don't know exactly what you are looking for), http://www.crucial.com/index.asp is a good source for RAM, but newegg usually offers a better price.
