So I got a new computer,Follow

and me being who I am, I'm having a bit of a problem. (with the computer ofcourse)

Things went pretty smooth, it only took me an hour or two to get back online as my cable modem was doing some very weird stuff, but after that it was smooth sailing.

Right until I turned off my computer, using the trusty switch off command in the start button. About 10 minutes later, my computer just turned itself back on, after my initial confusion about whether or not I'm experiencing some supernatural phenomena I find out that this happens every time. If I don't disconnect my computer from electricity, it turns itself back on.

Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance!

(edited to add: computer is protected with Norton Internet Security 2005, at start with Bullguard but I quickly switched, no worms or trojans or the likes were found)

I had a motherboard that had a feature where you could set it to power on at a certain time every day, does the amount of time between switch off and it powering back on seem consistant?

Yes, there does seem to be a constant time before it reboots on its own. I never knew that such a thing could be a part of the motherboard? It most likely is a hardware thing, a lever or so that needs to be changed?

Check your Bios for "Wake on Lan". Make sure it is disable. Let us know if that works.

I've disabled it, going to check it out this instant! Thanks, I sure hope that does the trick :)

The feature mine had was part of the utilities that came with the board.

It was actually quite irritating as it didn't have an off setting, you could only change the time of day it would come on (or week actually). I ended up uninstalling the software in my case.

That in the end didn't do the trick, but it did lead me to the answer, at least so far anyway. :)

I disabled it, but my computer rebooted on its own again, but above this option of disabling 'Wake on Lan', there was also the option to 'Wake on PME event', which for now I disabled. That did the trick, now I just need to figure out if I actually need that ability or not. I don't think so, but better safe than sorry :)

Apparently that is linked to a certain program installed, a kind of DVD program, but I'm looking into it.

Thanks for the help, I would never have thought of checking the Bios, although that does make sense that if it is some kind of software thingie, it would have to be in that section of the computer.

Thanks again, I'ld give a rate up but I'm no sage. :)
