My PS2 is having a weird issue, I can't really tell exactly what is going on. My PS2 is reading the discs well(I'm not getting Disc Read Errors), when it goes to run the game, the Black screen where it says Playstation 2 in white letters and makes that little sound(I think someone said this is the BIOS screen or something... I dunno) comes up just fine.

...but then the screen goes black for awhile, then it just takes me back to the browser.

Strange thing is... my FFXI install discs all read and work perfectly, my HDD util disc works just fine, but nothing else does.

I've had my friend bring over his PS2, all the discs read fine, so I know it's not the discs... I just don't get what the problem is here.

My PS2 might still read DVDs, I haven't tried that yet. I'll come back in a few with the results to that test.

RESULT: 10/10 DVD movies read successfully.

IIRC, the only thing you can do about that is send it to sony

If you dont have a warranty you'll probably have to buy a new ps2

I've had this PS2 since day one... so, nope, no warranty.

I hope I don't end up having to buy a new one, because getting the old model PS2(Which is needed to play FFXI) is a pain these days.

I had something like this happen on my PS2, have you tried using the HDD Utility to reformat the HDD and reinstall the game? That's what I had to do to fix mine.

I did that once a long time ago, not anytime recently. You know how much of a pain it can be to reinstall FFXI and get it patched up... but if I have to do it, I guess I will.

But being as lazy as I am, I'll probably wait till Aht Urgan or whatever to do it
