So I had FFXI last year, quit, got a new version (The Vana'Diel Collection)

So I put the disk in my CD Drive, nothing.

Soooo...

I put it in my DVD Drive. It hisses at me for about 10 minutes, makes that whiny sound like it's about to run a program, stops, hisses some more, etc etc etc.

After about 15 minutes, it says "Please insert a disk into drive D:"

I know the Disk Drive isn't to blame, because it plays other games just fine. So what the hell is wrong with my computer then?

Can you copy the entire CD to the hard drive? Then run it from there.

Isnt that a DVD? If so, make sure you use DVD drive.

After you put the DVD in the drive, are you able to go to My Computer, right click the DVD Drive, and click explore?

That should bring up the contents of the DVD without opening it. Then create a folder somewhere handy, say your desktop, name it something easy, like FFXI.

Then just select all from the DVD, then copy. Then go to the FFXI folder, and paste.

If it copies successfully, then try running setup.exe (or other setup file) from the FFXI folder.

Note: Haven't done this with the DVD, only the CD set. If it works, you'll never need the DVD again.

wow. Return the DVD (tell them its defective). If it happens with the new DVD, but other DVDs work, then call SE.

Well I'm just going to get my DVD Drive replaced. Last night, I tried to play some other games, and it did the same thing.

Thanks for your help though! Smiley: smile

Try reinstalling the DVD-ROM drivers. If that doesnt work, THEN replace it. Make sure you use new drivers from the manufacturer's website.

How do I know which one to download? My computer is a Gateway and I'm running Windows XP, if that helps.
