I just built my first computer, but when I turn it on, on the monitor all I see is a turquoise color, when i right click on my mouse i get the standard menu popping up where i clicked. (active desktop, arrange icons, line up icons, refresh etc) but that's it? It's as if windows was zoomed in so far, i can't see anything but the plain color of the desktop, I can see my mouse pointer, the shortcut menu (the rightclick menu), but that's about it.

Can anyone shed some light on this, how would I be able to get my monitor to display properly? Thanks in advance.

If you're running XP (which it sounds like you are) then press F8 when you're booting up as if you wanted to get into safe mode. Then try booting the machine in VGA mode, this'll reset your resolution to default and you should be able to get an idea of what is going on.

Post again if you have more problems.

If you can't see the taskbar I'd think Windows set itself up for two screens.
Disable onboard video in the bios.

I'm gonna try it out, but I'm running Windows 98 just to you let you know, will that make a difference? (98 is old, I know but that's what was just currently installed when I built the PC-my first build not to mention)

Usually by mashing the Del key right after you power on your computer. At least that's how my 2 PC's work.

Edit:

Might add you should be very careful when changing anything in the BIOS. Just ask blowfin if you aren't sure, he knows all Smiley: grin

I did manage to get into setup by pressing delete when I power on. But when I got into BIOS I wasn't able to disable the onboard video. ><
