Hello all,

I have recently installed a router and have been able to obtain an internet connection with it from both computers connected to it. When I surf the web it works great, but when I'm playing an MMO, every few minutes or so I'll notice that my sending and receiving signal becomes very slow and then stops, sometimes it'll fix itself for a few more minutes, but then it will come back and not receive again, and the server will time out and I'll get booted from the game. Please note that this only started happening after I installed the router, before it was fine. (but only had one computer so I didn't need the router) Any suggestions to overcome this? Being able to play my mmo with someone right beside me was the ultimate goal from the beginning.

Thanks in advance.

Have you opened up all the ports that are neccesary on the router OR (recommended) enabled UPNP in your router and the FFXI network config?

I believe it's in the router's config, usually if it's web based you have to open a internet window, type 192.168.1.1 and that will take you to the router's config utility.

According to Playonline, these are the ports you need to have open:
Quote:

Port numbers that may be used by the PlayOnline server group:
-TCP 25, 80, 110, 443 or 50000 - 65535
-UDP 50000 - 65535

Heh...must've worked. I know it's late, but most routers need no configuring to work.
