FFXI graphics problemFollow

#1 Dec 18 2005 at 12:12 AM Rating: Decent
Processor type/speed: Mobil Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.2 Ghz (2 CPUs)
Total Hard drive space/Free hard drive space: 60 GB / 15 GB
Amount of Ram: 1024 MB
Video card type: Nvidia GeForce FX Go5200
Operating system: XP
Computer model number (if it has one): Inspiron 5150
frequincy of problem: every time

When I run FFXI characters (especially summoned creatures) have horizontal lines missing out of them. Also my frame rate will drop drastically the longer I play. It gets so bad that the game almost freezes for a few seconds. This doesnt just happen in this game it happens in America's Army also, so I think it has something to do with my graphics card. I never used to have these problems but a few months ago they started i tried to undo all the things i have changes since then but I couldn't find anything that fixed the problem. Does anyone have any idea what would cause this? Its acting like there is a memory leak b/c it gets worse as I play longer, but it happens in differnt games so I'm at a loss. Thanks for any help you can give.

Are you using the most current version of your video driver?

the previous driver version? i was having problems then updated to the most recent driver and still had the problems. I dont know what rolling back exactly does so i dont know if that matters.

Rolling back means reverting to an earlier version of the driver, because the newer versions are written to accomodate newer cards and sometimes older drivers are more stable (most notably with the nvidia 5200 GPU).

I think the pol website is supposed to have a list of supported cards and the best drivers to use for each one. It also helps to use the software from http://www.drivercleaner.net in between installing different versions of drivers.
