PS2 HDD trouble. -.-;Follow

#1 Jan 03 2006 at 9:00 PM Rating: Decent
I've had my PS2 version of FF since the release, but recently my PS2 won't recognize it in the browser, so I assumed the data was deleted and tried to re-install it, but the format disk says it isn't inserted in my PS2. So I went out and bought a new PS2 and network adaptor thinking they were the problem, to no avail. Seeing as how it must be my HDD, my question is: Do I have to re-buy FFXI to get another HDD (I can't seem to find FFXI anywhere except ebay for an annoying price.) Or can I just go out and buy a regular HDD for a computer and use it in my PS2?

The PS2 wouldn't recognize a regular HDD. I've tried it thinking I could have a larger HDD in the PS2, but there's special formatting involved to make the PS2 recognize it. If you find a way to do it post back, I'd be curious as to how it works.

Have you tried taking it all apart and putting it all back together?

Maybe the connections have loosened up after time.

ok. Try this. That should help a little.

I've seen pages showing how to format HDDs for Xboxes, so I'm sure it can be done with a PS2, you just gotta look around.

Yes any HDD will work in your PS2, but only to store data. I believe you need 3rd party software in order to get the PS2 to recognize the HDD. However it will never play FFXI. I researched this extensively when my first HDD failed and I ended up having to get another. I formatted a regular HDD using the HDD Utility disk and the PS2 still failed to recognize it.

Is your HDD still under warranty? Have you tried calling Sony? Maybe they can replace it for you.

I found this link, but I don't know if it works or not http://ps2emu.dcemu.co.uk/ps2hdd.shtml

Edit: Looks like you would need 3rd party software, and that the 3rd party software will only let you play FFXI on a Sony HDD.

It can be done with an XBox because it's more like a PC than a PS2 is. Did the PS2 ever hit the ground with the HD installed?
