My friends computer stopped working on him a couple days ago and we can't figure out what's wrong with it. The computer will begin to start up like it normally does then it gives him a blue screen with some text, and then the computer restarts itself. It does this over and over and over again.
The text on the blue screen is this:

Stop: c00021a (Fatal System Error.)
The windows logon process system process
terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005
(0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down

This is the text as read to me over the phone by him. I believe it is written just as it is on his computer screen. Please help us if you have ANY idea what's going on with this thing.
Thanks!
Lu.

Well that could just about be anything.

First thing to try is to boot off the windows CD and go into the repair console by pressing "R" and then typing "chkdsk /r" at the command prompt. This will correct any issues with your file system and *might* fix it. It's certainly the easiest thing to try.

Could be any number of other things, bad hard drive, bad RAM, faulty board. Fun.

Keep posting if you want more help.

We did try to boot the computer with the Windows CD in the drive but nothing different happened. There is a time during it's incessant restarting that a couple of options come up.... One of the options is a "disk utility" I THINK. I will have to get up with him this afternoon and verify what the two options were and post back here.
Thank you for your help thus far!!!
Thanks,
Lu.

Is your computer configured to boot from the CD Drive? Sounds silly I know, but on mine I have to go into the BIOS and manually change it if I want to boot from the Windows CD.

That's all I got, you're in good hands with blowfin Smiley: lol

Edit: Just noticed you were from Bismarck Smiley: grin

I didn't think to check that! thanks for bringing that to my attention I will check and see where that takes us. that may very well be the problem! I forgot that he has a diskette drive on that PC and it's probably set to boot from that instead of the CD drive.
thanks!!!!!

yeah Bismarck... although I've been away for a few months.... ;;

if you see Fairyqueen, Xaander, Blackbob or any of the other FinalAddiction bunch tell them I said hello =)

thanks again for your help!

Ok... I went over there and fooled with this thing for a few hours and it appears that the CD drive isn't being recognized... so we installed a new one and nothing. I told him tonight to check the connections and replace the cable linking the Drive to the MoBo and try it again but if that doesn't work anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks so much,
Lu.
