FFXI compatability question

To the point:

if i bought NSTC FFXI HDD set for PS2 with modem, would it have a problem running with my UK PS2?

Doesn't the UK use PAL?

Yeah, and I assumed that a PAL PS2 wouldnt work with NSTC components. But i've heard stories that people have imported the equipment and had it working.
