FFXI: nVidia 6200 Driver IssuesFollow

Hello,

I am currently running an nVidia 6200 AGP 256 MB card.

The drivers that came with the CD were faulty, so I installed the latest ones from the official nVidia website. I drop down to about 1 FPS when there's more than 3 or 4 Player Characters on the screen. Makes it kind of hard to do any sort of NM camping, PTing, or walking outside of my Mog House.

I know I'm supposed to use either one of the older drivers, the 56 series or the 66 series. My problem is that when I try to install either of the older drivers They don't stay installed. Can anyone help out with this? I'm about to install an older nVidia card (eGeForce FX 5500) if I can't get my 256 MB card working properly

This is pretty much the process that I'm doing. Maybe I'm missing a step?
1) Uninstall Latest drivers
2) Reboot
3) Go through the install for either 56 or 66 series.
4) Reboot
5) Discover the drivers didn't install at all. Attempt to install again
6) Reboot
7) Repeat 5-6
8) Reinstall latest drivers / Reboot / Everything's back to the way I had it.

I guess this info might help too.
Intel P4 3GHz Processor
nvidia 6200 AGP 256-MB
1 GB Ram
Win XP Pro

Update
I just tried installing my old eGeForce FX5500 card using SE's suggested drivers - POL locks up on the splash loading screen. >.<

Thanks in advance for the help!

Try cleaning out your drivers with this before you install a different set.

>< No. I too have the same problem. I got the 66.** drivers and the thing says it supports the n6200, but wont work. I'm beginning to think either my onboard ati gpu is messing it up, or else FFXI doesnt support the 6200 series. which, pisses me off.

my system is as follows

Sapphire a4-m292 IGP-340 with ATI RV100 onboard
intel 1.70ghz processor
640mb ram
nvidia 6200 128mb with turbocache (agp)

the driver i installed from the cd was better then the newest, butb anything less then the included cd drivers leaves me with a black screen at start up.

if you find anything else out, pleae let me know! -.-:; i dont have the cash to replace this... as... i spent my money on it.

seemed to have fixed the problem...
got a few drivers from 3dguru.com, 71.** versions... i think the one that finally worked was 71.91. /sigh.
althought i still need to turn off the onboard audio to keep the fps over 10 during a spell, party, as i walk.... stupid SE and their driver issues. >< stupid 6200... >< gah!
it works, i give.
