WD RAPTOR USERS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH POL.EXE CHOKING READ!!!Follow

#1 Jul 06 2006 at 3:23 PM Rating: Default

POL is now aware of the bug involving WD Raptor 10,000RPM Sata drives causing FFXI to choke while loading character models..

If you are a victim of this bug, please do the following:

1. click Start -> Run -> type "dxdiag" in the box
2. Click Save all information, save it to your desktop
3. Email it as an attachment to usinfocenter@pol.com

It is very important everyone experiencing issues with this drive do this ASAP, the update is coming out mid-july and it needs to be fixed and brought to the attention of game developers.

just as an additional test, I installed my Raptor hard drive on a motherboard with an Intel chipset, thinking that possibly the Nforce chipset might have something to do with the problem, but the problem persists.

Meverett several people helping me with this issue have told me to ask you did you try installing FF to another hard disk like a 7200 rpm or something?

Also did you send the dxdiag info to playonline ?

Also you should file a bug report in playonline viewer AND call them and report this problem, so that it will be patched in the next update

yeah it runs just fine on a brand new 7200 RPM drive. I sent my directX info in already.

you can go to your device manager and disable NCQ and Read Caching under the SATA device for your drive. it seems to make it happen a little less

WDC WD740GD is that the model you have?

I ran some hard disk diagnostics and found this drive is only operating at 80mb/sec

I just did a mirrorer my 7200 RPM maxtor installation back onto the 74 gig raptor and my problem (for 48 hours anyhow) has disappeared. The only difference in my config is when I installed the motherboard drivers, I didn't install the NVIDIA IDE SW driver. Could be that is what was causing the problem?
