FFXI freezing upFollow

The game generally runs fine unless I try to go mining, which is my main source of income. Whenever I go out and mine, ffxi will hardlock (no error messages, it just freezes up). I've tried reinstalling and various different video settings, none of which helped.

Specs:
P4 3.2ghz
Total hard drive space/free: 150g/18g
RAM: 1.5gb
Vid card: GeForce 6800GS (AGP)
Model Number: Gateway 710 2900354
Frequency of problem: This one is tough. The game runs fine otherwise but when I'm in my usual mining zones (Gusgen and Oldton), it'll take anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes for it to freeze.

I've made two calls to POL tech support and they don't have a clue. In my first tech support call, the operator told me to install a driver my video card doesn't even support. The second guy gave up after seeing that I don't have any hardware conflicts.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

I'd first test your memory because it could be bad, run a program called memtest86 (you can search the term on google) and leave it running overnight, if it doesnt report any errors when you check it the following morning - then you can rule out bad memory.

It can also be possible that your ffxi installation could be corrupt, as 1 bad file could be causing the lock up, and bad memory can cause corrupt installs.
