Decent Comp, Bad FPSFollow

#1 Feb 06 2007 at 1:06 PM Rating: Decent
Any help would really be appreciated

Comp: P4 3.4g, Gforce 6800 256MB, 1g ram

I get 5-8 FPS in standard party zones like the dunes, as well as in town. I hover at 28-29 soloing (which is good enough). I run game at 1280 x 1024, using the registry hack. Is there anyone who knows a solution to uping my FPS? Turning the resolution down doesn't seem to do anything. This machine, using the same set up would run WoW like a charm, usually getting 30+ fps on raids.

Is this for FFXI?

Defragmenting will affect frame rate in FFXI, but with a 6800 you should be getting higher than that. Perhaps try a reinstall of FFXI?

FFXI caps at about 30FPS, always has. what is your network connection? usally the low FPS is due to lag~

1) Defrag your HD and do a spyware/virus scan.

2) If that doesn't help: Reinstall FFXI

3) If that doesn't help: Reinstall your videocard drivers.

What other graphical options are turned on?

Also keep in mind that Square-Enix recommends version 91.47 for nvidia drivers.

Are You using windower? Might wanna try not using it, if that's the case and You haven't tried it. Before I quit I had a problem that caused FFXIWindower run at a near glacial pace. FFXI fullscreen, not using the windower plugin at all, ran fine though. Never figured out what it was but if that's Your problem too, You might want to ask around in the Windower forums.

Btw, AMD 3400+, 6600GT, and 1GB of RAM. My old P3 and GeForce 4 ran FFXI just fine too.

This sounds like a very similar problem to what I'm having, though mine isnt quite so serve.
My system:
Intel Core 2 6400 @ 2.13 GHz
1024MB RAM
Nvidia 7950GT 512MB
160GB HDD, 90GB free.

I've tried everything you guys have suggested, uninstalled and reinstalled FFXI, defragged PC, run spywayre / virus checks, nothing seems to have worked. Even changed the drivers, still no luck. (Using the ones recommended by SE atm). While my problem isnt as bad as the OP, the FPS doesnt drop that much, it's still pretty bad in some places. Only really wheres a large number of NPC/PCs about. I can stand some where with full effects on in a sandstorm or something, if theres one or two mobs or people about it runs fine. If I go to Limbus with only 12 people it runs pretty poor. Not terrible, but certainly not as well as it should, given the PC I've got. I've also checked, FFXI seem to be the only game affected by this.
Any help would be much appreciated, the problems driving me mad D: I'm not sure if it's my internet or not, I use my laptop to run FFXI sometimes aswell, and that doesnt have the same problem. Only difference is my laptop is on wireless, my PC isnt. (I've tried connecting with wireless on my PC - that didnt help).

I dont understand because it used to run perfectly, I didnt change anything for fear of breaking it, yet still it breaks. /sulk

Thanks for reading, much <3 <3 <3 to anyone who helps^^
