Currently my PC is down and I am relying on my ole ps2 to play FFXI. My ps2 has a linksys wireless game adaptor. Its configured right and all so yes I can log on. Problem is some days my connection is so off I can take anywhere from 5mins to 3hrs to get past POL and into the game. Once in I usually stay connected even if the % drops up and down. My laptop never ever once had connection problems on the net so the signal should be fine. Basically I am thinking 2 things that might be the cause.
1. Adapter uses a different wave/signal and more easily picks up interference.
2. The port where the ethercable connects to the adaptor is loose or somehow not holding the cable in right.
Im leaning more to #2 because if I move the adaptor in a bit or if i jigle the spot where the cable connects to the adaptor, I lose my connection right away.

This can also be Playonline as I have noticed when I am lazy and play on my PS3 instead of my computer it taken me a long time to log in at times and have frequent dc's for no reason.
The PS2 adapters were all very bad with actually holding the cable well, I think I had to replace mine for something along the same lines as your describing.
