Xbox Live/PoL Connection IssuesFollow

Hello all, I have a friend that is experiencing some trouble with connecting to not only PoL but also Xbox Live. He began to download the latest update and was booted from Xbox Live once the update was completed. When he tried to get back on PoL it prompted him to sign onto Xbox Live but, when he tried it came up with a connection error message. He's also tried going on Live with other games, restarting his router/modem, and tried running PoL both with and without the FFXI disc inside. We really don't know what else to do. Any helpful suggestions on how he could fix this would be greatly appreciated. Thx in advance...
