I am stupid when it comes to computers so if someone could please tell me whats wrong or how to fix it?

I had a long standing problem with comcast because of slow internet, so we (the family) decided to switch to RCN, downloads and MMO's went faster, but I can no longer play Multiplayer games like Rainbow Six Vegas, and battlefield 2142.

The problem begins only when I get into the game. in RB:V I am stuck at "connecting to host" or in battlefeild 2142 I get into the game and immedietly get the "Problem with connection" text.

However, I can play WoW, and any downloads over Xbox live are blazing.

My step father says it has something to do with my ICMP, but he has no time to fix it.

I'd appreciate any help.

The Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) is one of the core protocols of the Internet protocol suite. It is chiefly used by networked computers' operating systems to send error messages—indicating, for instance, that a requested service is not available or that a host or router could not be reached.

I posted a quote so you understood what ICMP is, as wiki explains is a lot better then I can.

I would assume your problem lies in the router configuration itself. Depending on your router type, manufacturer, and model can determine if it will auto read those ports and froward it or not.

I have had many routers over the years and also serviced a ton of them for home networks when I was called on a job and this was a common issue.

Make sure if you are having problems try to forward directly the ports needed for that game to the IP address of the computer you are playing them on. This way when it sees data it won't try to figure out where to go, you give it no choice but to be directed to that computer.

Also make sure you don't have ports being blocked either by firewall on the router or your machine as this is also another common occurrence.

Like you said you can download so you know it's not your actual connectivity so you are being stopped else where.
