FFXI on External Harddrive?

My computer is running out of space and I had a 100GB external harddrive lying around, so I figured I'd put it to good use.

I want to move all of my FFXI to my external harddrive, but the last time I did this I remember there being some problems with it not finding the files. Is there anything special I need to do to make this work? Can anyone offer any advice.

If it makes a difference, I run WindowerLite - could that have anything to do with the no file finding?

You would have to modify the registry to make it point to the right folder in order to find the files (or reinstall there) also make sure your external hard drive is always assigned the same drive letter.

alternately, you could copy the contents over to the external, then set the external up to mount at C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\ ...the option to do this is in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management methinks. ...it will require both the external and the System partition to be formatted in NTFS, IIRC
