WoW on PS3: Can it be done?Follow

A guy at my office is asking me this. I don't know enough about WoW or the PS3 to answer this for sure. I know you can get an Ubunto linux install on PS3, but I'm not sure about Windows.

If not PS3, then what about Xbox360?

I don't believe so but you would probably want to check on the o-boards for it to make sure.

Always an honest answer.

Guy in my office talked to some tech guys that had four PS3s running Linux hooked up to their network acting as ghetto servers. (That beat the dude I talked to that had a tape backup system from 1988 that was still running.)

You can install Windows XP on your PS3 no problem. There are forums out there with instructions on how to do it.

I have never tried to run WoW or anything like that but providing the game / application you are running will accept the video chip on the PS3 then logically it should work.

I have a second drive I installe windows XP on for my PS3 but honestly I never tried installing games as getting Windows XP to boot was an accomplishment in itself.

Thought I should edit and explain, they are using a version of linux like Fedora and using Qemu emulator to run Windows XP. I hav yet to hear of a direct install of Windows XP because the architecture of the PS3 isn't like x86 it's more in comparison to PPC.

Good answer Bijion. Rate up from me. Having heard it wasn't doable originally, I did look into it myself. Found a few people had similar responses on the 'net so you learn something new every day.

Thanks for the rate,

If you need any information or are having a hard time getting instructions on how to do it (If you want that is) I can Post some generic instructions up however Qemu emulations can be weird at times and require a little tweaking.

As I understand it, running XP on the system isn't enough. There's something or other extra you have to do to make it work.

Though I may be thinking of the XBox.
