That's the short story. Here's the long story:
I reformatted my system and installed everything fresh. The only problem I'm having is that I'm no longer getting any sound from my speakers (USB headset works fine). I've properly inserted the sound card and installed the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website, but I still get no sound from my speakers.
Here's the weird part. After I rebooted to finish up the driver installation process, I started to get the Windows start-up music. A window popped up (very briefly) halfway through the music saying something about finalizing the process. As soon as it disappeared, the start-up music stopped. I went into the device manager and it looks fine. No yellow question marks or exclamation points. I went to Sounds and Audio Devices in the control panel. Everything is set according to how I always have them. Speakers are connected (I never disconnected them), volume is turned up, nothing is muted. The speakers are digital, digital settings are turned on.
I'm not sure what else there is to do. Any ideas?
