We were the Griffins, which normally I wouldn't think so bad, but my ******* Catholic high school had to draw some analogy between the duality of the Griffin (Lion/Eagle) and the duality of man (Human/Divine).

I say it's all ******** and accept the goddamn mythilogical creature.

Aside from that the mascot's costume looked like a giant chicken.

Homewood High School Patriots.

How many years did I play football?
5, starting in 8th grade.

How many times did we go to the 5A State Championship while I was in high school?
2, against the same team both times. We won the first time, they won the second.

That's right, I have a fat state champ ring. WOO HOO! I miss those times Smiley: frown

3. Panthers
4. I have no idea. (I only went there for a month)
5. The Knights

Todd Green (Ana Angels) and Hunter Foster (broadway) were both Knights.

Gryphons .. our school colors were scarlet and navy (what class)

When they built a second high school it's mascot was the Chimera (opposite of the Gryphon) ... and yes, you guess it, the school colors were navy and scarlet ....

Despite our school board, most of us managed to get into college!

The Tigers.

I HATED our name, simply because of that ******* "Eye of the tiger" song. I swear to ******* god, I'll kill the next ************ that plays it.

Graduated from here? Hmm...

Bill Hall (baseball)

Jason Fergeson (football)

Gene Simmons (some old *** singer from the fifties or something)

None of which are "famous", but they are definatly talked about around here. Which makes me hate them even more.

My mascot is the Indians. For the time being it is the Southern Guilford Indians, but the Board of Education found it demeaning to Native Americans, so we were forced to change it. They're taking votes for it soon. I find the whole ordeal amusing.

The Centurions. Most famous alumni? In this crowd, probably the one who is a member of the Eq dev team. I was his lab partner in Chemistry. Marcus Allen went to my Junior High, but he went over the hill to high school as mine did not yet exist at that time.

Okay - you didn't ask for it but here it is - the list of college athletic mascots which are not, in fact, plural:

The 'Berg - Heidelberg College (Tiffton Ohio)
Cardinal - Stanford (Palo Alto, CA)
Crimson Storm - Southern Nazarene University (Bethany, OK)
Crimson Tide - University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa, AL)
Crimson Wave - Calumet College of St. Joseph (whiting, IN)
Garnet - Swarthmore (Swarthmore, PN)
Golden Hurricane - University of Tulsa (Tulsa, OK)
Gold Rush - Xavier University of Louisiana (New Orleans, LO)
Green Terror - McDaniel College (Westminster, Maryland)
Green Wave - Tulane University (New Orleans, Louisiana)
Inferno - Alverno College (Milwaukee, Wisconsin)
Irish - University of Notre Dame (Notre Dame, Indiana)
Norse - Luther College (Decorah, Iowa)
Pride - Hofstra University (Hempstead, New York)
Pride - Peace College (Raleigh, North Carolina)
Pride - Greensboro College (Greensboro, North Carolina)
Pride - Regis College (Weston, Massachusetts)
Pride - Springfield College (Springfield, Massachusetts)
Purple Pride - Nyack College (Nyack, New York)
Purple Storm - Crown College (St. Bonifacius, Minnesota)
All verified below here:
Red Flash - Saint Francis College of Pennsylvania (Loretto, Pennsylvania)
Red Storm - St. John's University (Jamiaca, New York)
The Rock - Slippery Rock University (Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania)
#Spirit - Seton Hill College (Greensburg, Pennsylvania)
Storm - Keuka College (Keuka Park, New York)
Storm - Lake Erie College (Painsvilla, Ohio)
Storm - Simpson College (Indianola, Iowa)
Thunder - Tri-State University (Angola, Indiana)
Thunder - Wheaton College (Wheaton, Illinois)
Thundering Herd - Marshall University (Huntington, West Virginia)

This from an ongoing discussion with a friend of mine from high school over an article in the newspaper which cited three, yes three, as the number of "major" college athletics teams with singluar team nicknames.

(Note: plural words like "sox" which do not happen to end in "s" are excluded.)

I think the "Red Flash" and the "Garnet" are the most amusing, personally. Red Flash just makes me think of hot flash, and garnet - a glassey silicate material?

But my question is, which three was the newspaper refering to as "major"? Stanford, Notre Dame and Alabama?

By the way, feel free to add your college or correct any of these. I have not verified them all by hand. I forget what my pound sign meant - I think maybe it was only the Women's team is called that? Or is it totally wrong?
