Submit your complaint to the FCC and explain how Oprah and other affilates around the air waves can get away with using offensive material and Howard Stern is stuck always being watched and fined for things others are doing and they never have the problem like he does. Check out http://www.howardstern.com for more info on this.

Sorry, I think he's an immature man that decided to make a talk show about sex.

But then again, if people want to listen to that it should be up to them.

I love Howard Stern. He's a goddamn genius when it comes to innovation. Just think of the DJ's on the air now that are nothing but watered-down versions of Howard.

Is he rude?
Yes.

Is he crude?
Yes.

Can be be disgusting?
Yes.

Is he vulgar?
Most definitely.

First and foremost, he was doing it first. He crossed every line, and pushed every envelope the FCC had. If it wasn't for him, shows like South Park wouldn't exist because the FCC rules would be tighter than a chaste medievil maiden wearing wrought iron panties.

People listen to his show for two reasons. To laugh at what he does next, or to ***** at what he does next. He's almost always had as many haters constantly listen to his show as he has had fans.

Love him, or hate him...he does have a right to do what he does.

I found him amusing about 10 years ago, or so. Stern's innovation ended a long time ago.

I've never listened to Stern, myself.

But I did like the Eric Idle song linked to the Stern site though. And the pic of Kerry's daughter's boobs Smiley: grin

I agree wholeheartedly with Bongo. I enjoyed him when I was in highschool.

That's about it.

He hasn't innovated anything. There have always been celebrity types who try to be controversial to get attention. He's just another follower of a simple and well known formula.

I'm all for freedom of speech, but I don't think current FCC regulations are totally unreasonable. Stern isn't a revolutionary here. He's not the victim of a political plot to bar him from communicating a message or anything. No one is saying he can't describe in detail what a blumpkin is at all. He just needs to pick the right venue for it; and there are plenty for him to choose from. After all, he is the self proclaimed King of All Media, right?

It's not that I think Stern should not be able to express his opinions at all, I just don't think he's someone to be respected or, at least in this case, defended. If he's going to act like a moron and then play the victim when he gets caught, I'm not going to stand up for him.

It wouldn't matter if he was a **** advocating for female circumcision of all 8 year olds. He shouldn't be fined for saying exactly the same thing as someone else who is not. The rules must be consistent.

Howard Stern is boring, and I dont usually bother to listen to his show for that reason. But from the shows I have heard he keeps he guests in check and it is more play on words then anything serious. I have also seen/heard worst stuff on national TV, other radio programs, and in the magazines put right next to candy in the check out lines in the grocery stores. If there is going to be regulations they need to specify what is wrong, not just a vague term, but to actually say this is wrong don't do it. Then they need to enforce everyone equally not just certain people and let others slide.

Okay, I couldn't get past the firewall at work to read the transcripts. Now I have.

If those transcripts are accurate, then yes, the FCC is not applying their rules evenly.

Aye the FCC is not even but still STERN sucks *** sheesh I listened to him a couple times mostly cause my ex said he was funny but um NOT.

I agree that Howard Stern is an ***. That's really not the point here though.

If the transcripts are accurate, and they are the ones in question, he said nothing more explicit than what was said on Oprah's show.

Fine both or neither.

Yes, actually it would. I understand your point and you're using an extreme example to make it.

I don't care for Howard Stern. I do at times listen to his show but I'm not a fan. I'm not offended by his show because the things he does and talks about are things present in everyday life. Either in peoples thoughts, words or actions.

However I'm completely against ANY and ALL censoring of free speech provided it's not generating fear, harm or hate. If you yell "Fire!" in a crowded movie theater you should be sent to jail. If you and a friend are walking down the street and see a police office and say "pig" you should be allowed to keep on walking. To speak about the president and the administration is a right granted by the first amendment. There is no freedom of expression by the way. The first amendment allows for the free expression of religeon, speech and a few others.
If the KKK wants to walk down the street holding a rally then they should be allowed to and should be protected from harm. The same as if the NAACP wants to hold a rally. Or any other group. But if during the rally they start shouting "Kill the ************** then the rally should be ended by law enforcement and the people who made those comments should be arrested for threatening to commit a crime.
Just My opinion anyway.
As long as you're not promoting a concept or idea in nature that prohibits others from their rights to freedom then there should be no law or rule barring free speech.

Yes. My point is that you can dislike anyone you want. You can even say you dislike someone because of their religeon, skin color or any other reason. You shouldn't be allowed to say "kill soandso". That's similar to inciting a riot. As yelling "fire" in a crowded building would cause.
Part of My long winded point was that I think Oprah should be allowed to put sexual or offensive topics on her show, and so should Howard Stern. I personally believe that the "seven deadly words" should be allowed on television. Let's not pretend that kids in kindergarten don't know those words or use them. They hear them all day long at home and in school.

Or do you mean Allahkazam's censoring of that word?

I think hes an idiot! Whoo how good it is to listen to ozzy's brother talking mindlessly about sex and junk! I think its about as entertaining as watching a fish eat its food. I mainly feel bad for the cameramen and behind the scenes ppl that work being paid minimum wage to listen to Mr.Pothead ask some ugly wench to take her shirt off and! its very very boring and stoopid-(yawn)-even talking about it makes me tired....good...night...zzzzzzzzzz If the thing stern should get to improve himself would to get castrated so he wouldnt talk all crappy.

There's no such thing as freedom of speech on public radio.

The FCC doesn't actively police radio/TV either. There's no way they could have someone listening to/watching every televison/radio program everywhere all the time. They rely on reports of violations then they determine if there was a violation after the fact. If nobody reports Oprah for being obscene, she doesn't get fined. Because Stern goes out of his way to TRY to offend people, plus the fact that his audience is so large, it should come as no surprise when he gets reported.

Yes it is true that stern will get reported many more times then oprah just because people love to hate him. But this should not make a difference. Logically all reports on a violation should be sorted by date and time this way it eliminates multiple reports for the same incident. The FCC can then go to the source pull the tape and judge for them selves if a violation was commited. That is why I said the FCC has to have clear rules on what is not to be said and they need to treat everyone evenly. As far as oprah not getting reported on I am sure she has been, people will report a country radio station for playing a song with *** in it.

Howard Stern actually seems to have his head on straight and is just trying to push back the chains of conservatism and christianity that have imprisoned america for almost 200 years. for a lot of people christianity was FORCED upon them in america, even though they didnt want to believe it. i know its happened to me (which is why i dont go to church anymore, because my parents forced me and burned me out on it). i think the reason howard stern pushes the envelope on stuff is because he knows that there needs to be more left wingist stuff out there. props to howard stern for trying to open up the minds of mindless sheep (i.e: republicans, conservative christians, etc) and trying to show people that you CAN be different and still be a cool person. i mean hes not hurting anyone with his speeches, naked women, etc on his show. If these republican biggots hate him so much, why dont they stop watching it.

Anyway

Republicans = mostly evil rich white people who are extremely self centered and dont give a damn about less fortunate people

Democrats = Good hearted people who are trying to overthrow the evil and insideous republicans from the white house and make america better, and unlike the republicans, they dont lie to the american people and they CARE about PEOPLE and the wellbeing of the nation.

So i think its a very good thing that Howard Stern is supporting John Kerry because we need to save this country from the corrupt bush administration.
