Quilts? As in those things your grandmother made from old flour sacks and extra fabric? I believe the punchline would be slightly more funny is you said "kilts"-- you know, those skirt-like tartan things they wear when playing the bagpipes.

Besides the scottish don't farm sheep they farm cow's. That would be why the only people assosiated with defiling sheep are the Welsh and Yorkshiremen.

The Scots do herd sheep and cattle. There are plenty of cows and sheep everywhere you go there. The kilts are just their traditional dress. They used to be their military uniforms and now it's mostly worn during festivals and family events. I'm not sure if there's really anything equivalent in the US, other than just wearing a suit.
