Which offline PC game should I play?Follow

#1 Jun 18 2004 at 5:05 PM Rating: Good
Ok, been fishing a lot in FFXI and I'm about bored to tears. I need something fun to do while I fish :) Any recommendations for a great PC game I can play on one PC while fishing on the other?

Turn-based game is probably better than realtime action. I don't~ like first-person shooters, do~ like RPG/fantasy games with good intellectual challenges.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Becker, well if not turn-based then at least pause-able :)

Crystal, thanks for the recommendation -- I'll look into it.

I still fire up Civilisation II at times when bored with fishing. Should be able to pick up a copy for a few bucks. If not, Civ III.

Silent Storm

3D turn-based tactical strategy set in a fictional WWII environment.

Trailer Direct Link (42.5MB Bink format)
Demo Link (204MB @ GamersHell)

S2 came out back in January and I think this game flew under the radar of the average gamer due to some poor publicity work on the part of the US distributor. Which is shame because I think this is one of the best single player PC games that I've ever played.

There's an expansion coming out pretty soon for it, Silent Storm: Sentinels, that should add even more polish to the already smooth gameplay of the original.

Sentinels Trailer Direct Link (21MB .mpg)
Sentinels Demo link (296.5MB @ GamersHell). You don't need the original to play the expansion demo.

I like the Hitman series.

Good change of pace I suppose.

Except you still run around trying to avoid aggro.

But atleast I can quench my fiberwire choking thirst there.

Try the Age of Wonders games.

how do you fish and play another PC game at the same time, you'd go back and forth to the different keyboards...but even though it isn't turn based counter-strike?

If you've never played them, I still play older games from time to time. Starcraft+Broodwar, Heroes of M&M III , Any of the Command & Conquer series especially Red Alert 2 or Generals, Any of the Sims/SimCity games, or for some under appreciated fun try text based MUD's/MUSH's.
I'm still trying to figure out why anyone would possibly want to fish on the computer. You can't eat what you catch and you'll get arrested if you get caught 'mounting' it.

Balder's Gate series seem to be mildly entertaining. Morrowind is also a good title.

Yes. I have a Saitek 2500 that I use when fishing. It users the built-in rumble support in FFXI (rumbles when I get a bite), so I really don't need to look at the FFXI screen while fishing.

I think Morrowind III is a good game, plus it promotes substance abuse.

This made me cry. The 2 worst games in the series suggested over the classics T_T

He means in FFXI, you can fish to make moeny in it.

It's a turn based game, online though. Similar to worms

If you like turn-based RPGs, I'd suggest Fallout 1 and 2, I'm pretty sure they'll run in XP, and they can be bought together for around $10 in the budget CD Rom section at your local Walmart.

PS. It's not all turn based, just the fight sequences.
