For some reason, this program just locks up at loading. I installed a few days ago and have since given up.

post your system specs, you may have some bad hardware. also make sure you have the correct vs for your hardware and OS.

How can I increase the amount of CPU processor the F@H uses? Right now it's only using at most 55% of my CPU and I rarely go above 65% with it running. I'm running this on my laptop which is only about 1 year old. This is what I have to set to under the Advanced tab: http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/5210/untitledhe5.jpg

The work assignment is 1500 frames and supposedly won't finish for 2 days. Is that normal or have I messed up my settings...badly?

find out what else is running on your system that does not need to be and kill it with task manager.

also yes it can take a few days to complete some of the cores.

Curing all those terminal diseases sounds good. We'd need to do some research in space travel and colonization as well, though. Earth's population is growing steadily despite all those diseases. Imagine what will happen if people stop dying of anything other than old age.

Sounds cruel, but I believe in nature doing its thing.

Hmm. After finally setting up and running the GPU client properly, I have passed my old score in the matter of a few hours. Smiley: lol I guess I'm lord_dodobird on the scoresheet from now on.

Seriously though, the thing's trucking along at a good 3.1s/frame, and completing 25k WUs in 20hrs or so. That's impressive.

dodo, you have not completed 25,000 WUs in 20 hours. you have completed 3 WUs total.

http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=userpage&teamnum=85020&username=DodoBird

that is your record no?

FYI we are now over 60 users and over 70 CPUs getting closer to the 100 mark.

I think he meant WU's that consist of 25,000 frames... But maybe I'm wrong. That's how I read it, anyway.

But then... I don't understand this stuff as good as some of you. Smiley: lol

No no, you misunderstood. When running the GPU client, it claims an estimated time of 20 or so hours for a 25,000-frame large WU.

Also, I think that it may have re-named me as lord_dodobird when using the GPU client since the normal client has DodoBird already registered, or something like that. I don't believe there's more than one dodo on these forums, so that's my best guest.

That'll be a misconeption.
My graphical client claims I'm working on a 1,500 frame WU (currently 1069/1500). If I read the logfiles it says 1,069,000 steps of 1,500,000 steps done.
The SMP text-oriented client also counts in steps which seems to be frames x 1,000

By the way 1069/1500, 1m35s per frame, so I'll be on that list tomorrow :-)

ahh that could be it then. i run the linux CLI clients so i see the full number of steps. it only reports every 15,000 steps though. so:

1260000 out of 1500000 steps (84%)
writing local files
1275000 out of 1500000 steps (85%)

that is from my laptop. it normally takes a week or more to complete a WU, supper slow CPU followed up with only 128M ram.

Joined up yesterday, started running as screensaver. So if you see a Madmurr, that's me. Just using my PC atm, but will work on getting wife's comp hooked up too.

Great cause...I knew someone when I was young who had Parkinson's and my step-grandfather died of Alzheimer's...scary thing that is.

My PC: Athlon 64 3000+, 1 Gb RAM, 6800GT
Wife's PC: Sempron 3000+, 1 Gb RAM, 6200LE

So no, there won't be any power bragging rights coming from this poster lol.

just install it, follow the on screen directions for entering a user name and team name and if you want larger then 5M files or not, then set it to run. thats all there is to it really.
