I can't believe what happened today! After saving for like a year I dropped
by my local EB to finally get a PS3 and a few games. I got the system and
grabbed FFXIII, GOW collection, GOWIII and castlevania LoS.

The guy at the store ran it up and it came to $480.20 total. I thought
"ok it should be more than that but I aint gonna complain." So I get home
and check my bank account online and only $48.20 was taken out. I grabbed the
receipt and sure enough $48.20 total showing on it! The purchase list made no
sence either, it had GOW collection twice and FFXIII and GOWIII wasn't on it
at all. This has to be the best night ever.

Only problem is I can never go back to that store again.

You could go back with the receipt and point out the mistake made. It probably will feel tough to do after you've just received all this "magic money" but I guarantee you it will make some people gain more faith in the world and in other people. The warm inner glow will be outstanding. You'll get to be really offhandedly smug about it one day. "This one time I..."

And there's always the possibility, as happened to me one time, that it's too much of a hassle to fix the error, and although they'll think you are outstandingly honest, they can't take the proper money from you now anyway. So you get to be honest AND super money lucky.

The only thing that is bothering me about it is if the guy got in trouble
over it. It's not worth it if someone got fired for it.

GOW was God of War not Gears of War.

Neither, I'm tired as hell, and forgot that God of War even existed.

And that day will be the day you have children, and every day thereafter until your children rain fiery destruction upon EB for giving you the opportunity to tell them this story over and over again.

there is a good chance they will fix the error and charge the correct amount. I have had this happen before.

I'd advise heading back to the store to point out the mistake.

If they notice it (they probably will) they're going to charge you the full amount. If you "inconvenience" yourself and make the trip back to rectify the situation they'll most likely give you a hefty discount of some kind. There's a chance they won't notice, but I wouldn't take the chance personally.

Make sure to ask for a manager if you don't think the dork at the counter is him/her.

Yeah, I have news for you: They're not going to take a $440 loss when they have your credit card info. Expect a bank adjustment.

Must have been a bad store.
"Most" stores have the etiquette to charge what is on the sticker on the shelf. I have bought many things that were wrongly priced, but that isn't my fault.

You should go back in and talk to the manager or call to talk to one. If the cashier gets in trouble...meh. I'm sure the store would like to still be open and giving the others who work there their job, rather then need to close down because on of their workers doesn't know how to ring stuff up right and is giving people huge *** discounts for the store to make 0 profit.

They might not charge the full amount if you point it out, as a thanks.

In this case, I don't think the sticker was wrong, the cashier just didn't ring things up correctly. So some uneducated teenage kid from the video game department of this particular department store is going to be chewed out when inventory day comes and they notice a PS3 is missing that isn't paid for, and a few games.

Do you not know what an EB Games is?

Of course, I didn't think they were still around, but... they're definitely not a "department of a department store".

That doesn't mean that that isn't exactly what's going to happen though. I highly doubt they will miss the fact that their PS3 sales do not match their number of units. However, I'm not sure if they'll actually be able to track it back to you or not. Best of luck, but again are you willing to take the risk?

It's a good idea to go back. Even if you never plan on shopping there again. The chances of them NOT charging are actually pretty good as well.

Not quite the same but last year when I bought a new monitor, the store gave me the wrong model from the one that was on sale. We didn't notice until we got home (the one they game was very similar, same brand just slightly larger), and we had bought quite a few other items so at first we didnt notice. When we did we actually took it back to the store.

The manager said since it wasn't our fault we didn't have to exchange the monitor and he gave us the price difference back (yippee)!

Likely what happened is when he sent the info through the debit/credit machine he misplaced the decimal and poof mistake. As long as the receipt shows the PS3 on it you should have nothing to worry about going to that store again.

It sounds like the store has something screwy with it's system. I know most EB/Gamestop stores are trying to get credit card machines, but some you scan it and then enter the total amount and that's where I could see him messing up, is when entering the total amount into the machine. If your receipt doesn't have a ps3 listed on it then there isn't a way they could track it back to you.

I wish I had your luck.

Even if it is listed the only way they can get the money is if they ask him to pay it nicely. They can not just charge his CC or Debit card without his consent, otherwise they would have a bigger issue than losing out on a 400 dollar system. Likely all that will happen is they will call their H.O. and say well we effed up we lost a PS3. H.O. will say well ****, than I guess you will have to take a loss store owner and pay us.

My advice would be to tear up your card, making any further charges illegal under the principle of regere follis, upheld as recently as 2008 in the case of Walmart v Glasscock, and, liquidating your holdings, abscond with your fortune to the clean air and easy living of the DPRK.

Depending upon you:
1. You can go back and point out the mistake. Maybe get a small reward. And still pay lots for your system.
2. Say nothing and see if they do anything.
3. Head to bank. Close accounts and card and move to another bank.

Won't do any good. If they do try to charge the card, it will just open the account back up.

Oh really? I know that it worked. Been there done that. Maybe they changed something but places can't charge to a closed account, Nor charge to your present one without authorization. After my fun with AOL and what they tried I learned how to prevent places from making unapproved charges to your account.
