No, but I am adventurous with my taste buds and have accepted that even though I don't like certain foods, there are combination that they can come in where they either taste good, or go unnoticed and therefore, are worth trying.

This.

Allergies excepted, a lot of the time you may be surprised that ingredients you don't like when in some foods (or the specific foods which made you decide you don't like said ingredient) will taste good when in some other food you haven't tried yet. How do you know if you don't try it? If you automatically say "hold the pickle" on anything you order, you might just be missing a wonderful flavor combination that you might love.

Reminds me of a pair of brothers I know. An yeah, they were two of the people at that very taco shop years ago, so there's that. They are salt fiends. They literally salt everything they eat. The first thing they do when food is placed in front of them, no matter what it is, is to reach for a salt shaker. If there are no salt shakers, they will request salt packets, just by habit. I've seen them salt their pizza. Scary, I know.

Aside from the health issues, I always wonder if they realize how many flavors they are just plain missing because of this. I just can't imagine going through life with everything basically tasting the same because I add the same overpowering flavor to everything. While this is clearly in a whole different league in terms of food neurosis, it's one of the reasons why I tend to work hard to *not* be picky with my food. I'll at least try something the way it's prepared before making alterations. It reminds me of an old Taco Bell commercial. They were advertising some new item and in the bit the server hands the food to a customer and the customer reaches automatically for some hot sauce. The server jumps in and grabs the sauce out of his hand and says something like: "Could you at least try it first before adding sauce?".

That pretty much sums up my view on this.

If someone were interested in trying new flavors I doubt they would be at a fast food restaurant

I go to fast food restaurants. It's not where I go when I want to try something new, but when I go there, if there's something new there, I'll usually try it, to see what it's like.

I've been getting the exact same meal from Wendy's since I was like 10.

ETA: I could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the rest of my life and be happy. Also.. cereal.

I'm assuming you have an allergy? Yea, that's an obvious exception.

Yes. I used to be ok with them, but at about 25 or so I became deathly allergic...I found out the hard way after an especially un-fun respiratory attack.

There's a huge difference between taking things off when you're trying something for the first time, and taking things off when you're just ordering it. I don't think anyone has been saying that you shouldn't give new food a chance in it's original form.

Things like burgers discounted of course, because a sliced tomato is going to taste like a sliced tomato regardless of the type of sandvich it's in, and I don't like the texture/taste it adds in all sandvich situations. Same thing with pickels, etc.

Food is weird sometimes though. I don't like the way mushrooms taste, but I like the flavor they add to beef/chicken and the sauces they create.

I disagree. I've had burgers where with the variety of the other toppings added on, I never noticed the tomatoes. Mind you, I don't despise tomatoes, so it's easier to blend in with the other flavours for me.

Amen, brother!

These are examples of the Cordyceps Sinensis mushroom. A caterpillar burrowing in the soil eats a Sinensis spore. The caterpillar wanders around for a while, then the spore grows inside, killing the caterpillar, and mummifyies it. The caterpillar assumes a vertical position under the soil, and the mushroom grows above the soil out of the caterpillar's head as a simple spike. The English translation of the common name is "Winter Worm, Summer Grass".

Then Tibetans come along and dig them up, and sell them up the chain to Chinese Medicine practitioners, where they cost 25,000 Euro a kilo. (US$36,000 per 2.2 pounds).

Actually I eat both. Admittedly I take the first one in concentrated capsule form. I was a little disappointed that in the end I didn't have to zen myself up to tranquilly swallowing a mummified caterpillar a day for two months, after initially thinking I'd have to do so. Damn western businesses and their processing... processes.

Ever had Portobello mushrooms? They're awesome. And grilled upside down mushrooms with butter, soy sauce and pine nuts nestled in the umbrella part are superb. Ok, I just ate and now I'm hungry.

I love portobello. I was surprised to find out they are actually just overgrown button mushrooms.

So, there I was... eating at an Italian restaurant with a friend. I'm looking over the menu and the first thing that caught my eye was something I had no idea what it was, but it sounded nice. I read the ingredients and it had their special "spicy sauce". I'm not a big fan of spice so if it's too hot, I wont eat it. So my first thought was, "no big deal, I'll ask without the sauce", but as I reread the menu, it was "smothered" in it or something, so I said, "hmmm changing the sauce would completely ruin the taste, better pick something else...."

At that moment, I thought about this thread and how I didn't think I would ever do that. Meanwhile, my friend completely customized her meal... It was pretty funny to me.

I did buy what I wanted and it was good. I decided not to buy the first meal because I did NOT want it.. Way to fail...

I'm assuming the dish used a difficult sauce to substitute for, like a spicy Thai peanut sauce and not something easy like a spicy tomato sauce? If not, you took my trolling too seriously.

I don't remember the sauce.. I just decided to get something else, it really wasn't a big deal. It seems as if you're probably taking my post too seriously..
