I was just about to PM Nexa about this, but then I thought, "I haven't seen her around here in a while, so maybe I ought to just throw this up on the forums and hope she sees it."
I'm planning to start attending Graduate school in February. I've filled out my FAFSA, and my EFC is $22,112. My eyes about popped out of my head. There's no way my family can contribute that. I know I can get loans, but geez, I was hoping for a little more help, I guess.
So I'm wondering if any you can steer me in the right direction for some grants or what I should be looking for. It's been fourteen years since I've had to worry about any of this, and I'm a little lost!

You should be able to talk to a Financial Aid adviser at the school you are planning to go to, I'd think. Their website should have a Financial Aid section that probably has some resources. The one site that I remember offhand as a reputable site for scholarship and grant searches was Fastweb.

Yeah, I haven't taken my assessment tests or been officially accepted yet, so I was holding off on that. And my employer is going to help pay for the tuition, so I'm trying to get a handle on how much it's going to be and if there are any grants I'll be able to apply for.

I've actually never had to worry about paying for college (either for myself, Ray or the kids). I got my education basically for free due to my dad's military veteran benefits so college tuition and registration fees were waived. I got enought merit-based scholarships/grants that books were basically covered so the only thing I had to pay for was my parking permit. Lived with my parents so didn't have much living expenses except for my own fun money. I was spoiled, I have to admit. All my other degrees and certifiates I got when Ray and I were living on the military base so we were able to afford tuition and books (since I didn't qualify for income-based grants at that point).
Ray's military veteran benefits have his college expenses covered and depending on which GI Bill he eventually chooses to use, he may even get a housing allowance. I just need to get him started on his education again so these benefits don't go to waste.
Our kids have the same deal that I got through my dad.
If I actually had to get financial aid, I wouldn't know where to begin.

I've flirted with the idea of law school, but that I know we'd have to get financial aid for (to the tune of around $60,000) and with a mortgage, that's rather scary to take on. Also, most law school graduates are having a crappy time now trying to find a job.
