Or, in somewhat more understandable terms: I'm scanning film at 6400dpi on an ancient macpro because the retarded driver software doesn't work on anything newer and it's taking ±10 minutes per foto, for 25 fotos.
I'm slightly frustrated, bored and annoyed.

Slightlyas in I really, really, REALLY want to take a sledgehammer to the scanner, macpro and anything else that's within reach.

I tried 12800dpi first, cause... yeknow... 19000x13000 pixel images are cool, but the MaccrapPro got a seizure from attempting to process it.

Just a question, but why the **** do you need images scanned at 6400dpi anyway? I assume you're making posters or something?

Purely for the e-peen.

edit: also, it's from a film, so the images are 24x35mm before scanning.

And it can't handle that at 6400dpi? Wow, sucks for you. Might be better off to make large scale prints and scan those at a lower res instead.

1.25Ghz dual core, 1GB ram. It's a proper powerhouse.
Also, I'm a poor student and prints are expensive as ****.

Then suck it up, lower the res till your computer can handle it at a speed that doesn't make you want to die. If you're not using those images for large format ANYTHING, then there is no real reason for you to have 19000x13000 size images. The only thing you will inevitably accomplish is to give some poor print jockey down the line, a 2.5GB power point presentation and wonder why it puts a strangle hold on his business class work PC. AND NO I'M NOT BITTER!

Also, if this is only for e-peen's sake anyway, [blink]YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO COMPLAIN BECAUSE YOU'RE JUST TRYING TO MEASURE YOUR **** ANYWAY.[/blink]

Dear admins, you know the right thing to do.

The final images are only 9000x6000 pixels, which isn't all that large, pretty much normal for a full frame camera I think.
And that's still only a 30x20cm print on high quality, which is what I'll use them for.
Plus, the place where I get them printed is a professional photo printing company, they don't get scared by large image files Smiley: tongue

Also, there's no better way to express just how large your epeen is than by loudly complaining about how long it takes to meisure!

Well when you take twice as long to measure your epeen in centimeters as other people do in meters, you're not exactly coming out ahead.

The only real reason to have so much resolution is if you're using the images for some form of analysis and compressing them heavily. Or making something huge.

Anyhow, digitalising data is all about compromise, you can't have a perfect representation and if you get too close to it it's gonna stop being worth the effort.

Maybe he wants to zoom in on that pore next to the small hair next to the mole on that model's breast and examine it to make sure she was properly cleaning herself.
