What the hell is it with program designers these days with removing functionality and jamming every single option left into a single button? I just spent the last hour setting Firefox back up to something approaching what it looked like before I updated it to version 4, and there is still just a bit too empty space up top for my liking.

Once I got the menu situation sorted, I had to track down a way to rid of the annoying link bar that pops up whenever you scroll over a link. Why they decided to completely remove the status bar I have no idea, but you can at least get some that functionality back by installing the Status-4-Evar plug in. Installing that gives the pop up link bar a new home (no more popping up), or it can be disabled completely if you don't want to look at it all.

The only good thing so far that I've found with the new version is that it remembered my Awesome bar setting to never, ever show up under any circumstances. They claim that it's faster than the old version, but if it is, it's such a small increase as to be nearly undetectable.

I installed 4 then copied my entire folder from 3 over to the new folder. It kept all my settings and plugins and just ran like it always has, except with a few buttons moved around. I'm more or less indifferent towards the change right now. It's definitely not something you should go out of your way to get.

Minimalist is best according to all software developers. IE8 is similar and actually has even less out of the box then Firefox 4. I like IE8s layout but its taken me 5 attempts to get mouse gestures to work so I've given up on it.

I don't like it either. All my buttons for refresh, stop and the like are gone.

It's about the same as ff3 to me imo.

F5 is refresh.

There's a stop button on my FF4, and I've never used the button for Refresh.

I've actually had huge space issues with FF3 when using a tiling window manager, and Chrome is too minimalist for my tastes, so FF4 is brilliant as far as usability with XMonad goes (and no, I don't want to reserve a complete workspace for my web browser).

There are still memory leaks, but restarting it fixes that.

The only other browser I've used without getting frustrated was Opera, and I didn't particularly like it, I just didn't mind it as much as the other alternatives.

That being said, they should fix Flash. Running random Flash applications makes my CPU monitor jump from green to orange. And I know that has nothing to do with FF4 per se, but it still irks me.

If the Internet wasn't all scripty and flashy nowadays, I'd just use elinks again for the lulz.

Does shift+F5 work? If it doesn't then your argument is null and void. :3

CTRL+F5 maybe, F5 alone does nothing.

I shouldn't have to hit keys to make my browser function the way it's intended. My keyboard stays hidden most of the time while browsing. I hate Safari, IE is meh, so I guess I'll give Chrome a try.

EDIT: I found them. They're at the end of the address bar. It's "stop" if a page is loading, and "refresh" if a page is already loaded. Crisis averted.

I had the same problem and googled it. The solution consisted of some changes I believe with going into "Safe mode" of fire fox and removing what ever "apps" is stopping it from acting right. I don't have the link, but just google it. It was driving me crazy, but it's all good now.

Chrome is even more minimalistic than FF4.

And I shouldn't have to use my mouse to make my browser function the way it's-- owait, I have vimperator for that. <3
