I've been working in ceramics for about a year now, and have just now finally gotten tired of the wheel and moved to hand-building. I don't consider myself all that artistic, so I liked the wheel because you don't need a clear idea of what you are doing, you can just play and something will eventually come of it. But I've come to the conclusion that hand building lets you make some pretty awesome things.

Holy sh*t, you have a VERY good eye for design and hand for execution! Those are some seriously arty teapots. I love that yellow and black pot. The shape of that pot has such lovely flowing form, contrasting but not clashing with the geometric yellow stacked cube patterning.

REALLY good work. Your friends and relatives are truly getting something special. Coming from an arty family, I think I can comfortably price the teapots at over $200 each, and the black and yellow at over $100. If you have any sort of fame, you can start adding the dollars on top of that.

In a gallery I'd price the teapots at $500, and if you were a famous artist, $1000 each.

The companion cube has it's own memetic charm. If you finish it well, and don't run into copyrite concerns, I don't know how much it would go for. The trick would be finding the right collector. Even if it wasnt' a companion cube, the design-as-sculpture is rather a good one in a strictly abstract way. I'd be really interested to see variations on the design, with your own colour design finishes on them. They would make really fab modern art. I could see a patterned cube about 8-10 inches in width selling for $200-$500. If you were selling at a fair, or market, you'd have to drop the price to materials and a modest mark-up.

It's one of my favorite's, too. I was originally going to make the geometric cubes Q-bert colored, but wasn't able to find a glaze combo that I liked for it.

I'd wait to price things until after they are glazed, haha. Since I'm just doing this at the local arts center, I'm kind of limited to the glazes available there. Even then, since I don't load kilns I can't control how things are fired (many glazes respond better to different reduction/oxidation environments, which are dependent on their location in a kiln)

Oh, and there's no way I'd sell my companion cube. It's for me forever <3

I'm calling the bisque kiln the incinerator for this very reason.

The OoT reminds you that the Companion Cube cannot speak. In the event that the Companion Cube does speak, the OoT urges you to disregard its advice.

I hope you don't fudge up those awesome teapots with poorly chosen glazes. That's about as mean a thing as I can say, because I really like the designs.

thanks Al.

I've run some test tiles with varying glaze combos, so I should be good if I play it safe and stick to stuff I know works well together.

Someday I'll actually delve into the chemistry of it all, but I'm far too lazy for that right now.

Those teapots are excellent. And those bowl things, how big are they? Like 150ml 200ml 500ml?

I want.

There's a guy at this studio that does tons of animals - chickens, elephants, etc. I'll suggest that to him.

I'm a bad judge at volumes, but in ceramics things are normally quantified by height, since it is the hardest dimension to get (normally). Most of the vessels I do are around 15-20cm tall. Nothing terribly large.

So this may be a really dumb question, but I'm going to ask anyway. Are they functional teapots, or are they more of a cool looking decorative item?

Eh, I'm not that keen on random ceramic genitalia.

They are technically functional. One of them has been bisque fired already, and it actually pours very well.

Shameless bump-n-update.

Teapot 1
- This is probably my favorite one.
Teapot 2 - I'm disappointed in how the glaze turned out on this one. Learning process and all that.
Teapot 3 - This one is ridiculously shiny. 2nd favorite.
Teapot 4 - I really still like the shape of this one. The glaze ran as intended, but the colors weren't quite what I was going for.

Oh, and companion cube still needs to be fired before I can hand-paint it. :(
