The correct portion size for meat is 3 oz.

You can measure this as:

- The size of a deck of cards (1 inch thick cuts)
- The size of the palm of your hand ( 1/2 inch thinner cuts)

This is correct, but also useless. Who wants to eat only that much?

It goes with the idea that if you're eating 4-5 small meals a day, it's a good call for portion.

My mom taught me to eat small meals where the protein is the size of the palm of your hand, carbs the size of my fist, unlimited steamed/non-fried veggies and fats the size of the tip of my thumb. Unfortunately, we're also Filipino so this isn't practiced very much.

Sorry, but following those guidelines don't result in small meals.

Depends what the guidelines were for medium and large meals.

3 decks of cards for meat, 4 fists of carbs and a 12oz mug of fat.

If you're eating the protein as a stand alone portion, then I totally agree. Depressing portion size, that.

But it's not bad when cut up into a one dish meal.

I ran across this article on CNN tonight. Thought it might be of use to some folks. Why gamers are a great fit at the gym.

Quote:
It's a theory they're taking to the bank. Talens and Wang are the co-founders of Fitocracy, a website that's turning gaming geeks into fitness geeks. The site has 70,000 users in its beta version and hopes to open to the 60,000 on a waiting list in the next couple months.

Fitocracy members can "level up" by earning points for their workouts. New levels unlock special challenges or "quests" that are designed to push users out of their comfort zones. For example, a runner might have to do yoga, or a bodybuilder might have to tackle a 5K.

Could be kinda cool, IMO.

Apparently you can get in if you have a friend in the beta who still has one of the initial beta friend invites available, assuming you posted that article somewhere(like Facebook) and said friend saw it and offered you an invite. Smiley: grin

I'll let you know what I think of the whole thing once I get into it a bit. Accepted a few quests so far, but sadly will not have time to actually do any of them til Thursday morning.

Didn't have much of a chance to look over it yet; am I right in seeing there's no diet component to the site, just workout stuff?

Exercise bike explodes, impaling you on a massive piece of shrapnel that pins you through the treadmill which scours off your skin while simultaneously electrocuting you, all because you mistimed a single pedal stroke?

Correct. From what I've seen on the forums, it seems like they felt there was enough dietary stuff on the web already. It's just exercise, not even a calorie counter.

But only after a Red Phantom warps in and obliterates you with a barbell.

One more month down. At 224 now. Dropped a pant size, gotta wear a belt to keep them up now. Keep this up I'll be close to 200 by the new year.

I'm a little concerned in the back of my mind, everything I read said you shouldn't lose more than 2 pounds per week. But I'm at about 3. I wasn't expecting to drop as much this month because after the last couple months I added 100-300 calories, to slow it down a bit. That and the last month at work I've been stuck in the front office programming rather than working out on the shop floor building things.

But, I guess as long as I'm not starving, it's ok.

214. Lost 1 pound over Thanksgiving break. Luckily I was very busy working around the house that weekend to make up for the food I ate.

It depends what you smoke.

There are the e-cigs. They come in lots of flavors that you can 'vape' on.

I gained 2 lbs over the Thanksgiving weekend Smiley: glare However, since then I've been eating less, and (most importantly for me) drinking nothing. I played DD this weekend and still went out each night. Not only was it nice to not have a hangover the next day, it was a lot cheaper. My total bill for Friday night, for example, was $20; that was mostly for dinner, a cover charge, and one beer (which I bought for a friend). My apartment-mate, however, spent about $70 and slept in until almost 3pm the next day. He also ripped a sink off the wall of a Steak N' Shake, which was admittedly kind of awesome.

The results of the weekend seem pretty good. Was back up to 205 after Thanksgiving; as of yesterday, I'm down to 199. Hoping by the end of this week I'll be even lower. Still need to lose about 20 lbs to get back to a "normal" weight, but it's the first time I've been under 200 in the last half a year.

Details?

That was pretty much the story Smiley: laugh We all sat down to eat, he went into the bathroom, came back out a couple minutes later and calmly said "You should go look in the bathroom." The sink was off the wall but the pipes were still intact, so it was just sort of hanging off of it. We wanted to take pictures, but assumed it would probably be better not to have evidence of it.

We finished our meal and left about half an hour later.
