Hah! I worked graveyard shift for a number of years. Usually, my roommates were pretty good about letting me sleep and not waking me up. Honestly, it wasn't much of a problem because everyone worked anyway, meaning the house was empty until late afternoon most days.
The one time I got really annoyed was with one of my roommate's girlfriends (now wife, go figure). I usually disconnected the phone in my room when sleeping and could usually tune out sounds elsewhere (there were two closed doors between my room and the rest of the house. One day, she apparently got into an argument with a friend of hers and decided to play the "I'm not going to answer the phone and talk to you game", while her friend decided to play the "I'm going to keep calling you over and over until you answer the phone" game. This was in the dark ages before cell phones and silent mode and whatnot btw.
Eventually, I woke up to the sound of the phones in the rest of the house ringing over and over and over and over and... you get the picture. I plugged the phone in my room in and answered. I got a hang up (apparently she didn't want to talk to anyone except my roommates girlfriend). Then more rings. I figured it must be someone crank calling, so I unplugged the phone and then went out into the living room. There's the girlfriend sitting on the couch watching TV ignoring the phone right next to her ringing. I asked her what was going on. She explained that it was her friend trying to talk to her, but she didn't want to answer. You cannot believe the look I gave her at this point. Trying very hard to keep my temper, I told her I was trying to sleep and could she please just answer the phone so I wouldn't have to keep hearing the phones ringing over and over.
I still remember her response to this day: "You can't make me answer the phone".
Obviously, I didn't kill her. It was close though. I probably could have gotten off on a sleep deprivation defense too!
