An invitation to take part in MMO research!Follow

#1 Aug 31 2011 at 5:39 AM Rating: Decent
Hi all,

First off, just to say that I've contacted Kaolian who's given this thread his a'okay, or more precisely asked me to post up 'Survey Approved 8/30/2011 ~ Administrator Kaolian'. :)

So...this is an invitation to take part in Psychological research into MMOs. It’s a questionnaire looking at identity in MMOs and how people express themselves in such environments. There’s 79 questions in total which shouldn’t take too long to complete – plus if you wish you’ll be entered into a prize draw in which you can win a year’s worth of game time (up to a set value)! In addition, there’s four smaller prizes of 3 months of game time. Alternatively you can win an equal amount in vouchers from Amazon (or an online shop of your choice.) To take part in the research, please follow the link below:

To tell you about myself a bit, I’m a gamer of many years standing (30 years and counting) and have played many different MMOs in my time. Apart from the fact they’re great fun, I think they represent an evolution of sorts in terms of how people interact, representative as they are of virtual environments in general. That’s a pretty short description of my thoughts and opinions about MMOs in general, but if people want to engage in discussion of that nature I’m quite willing to take part.

Thanks,

Alex Meredith,

p.s. Previous participants have noted that some of the questions seem the same and indeed some are, but that's to check people aren't answering randomly. However, there are also slight variations in questions which relate to different underlying concepts - just to let you know there are nuances in them. :)

You should probably either adapt the answers on this question to at least explain what "equivalent qualification" is for A and O levels, or make note that this is a survey only for people in England or whatever.

Fair point, I'll put an age measure next to each one so that people know what area I'm talking about.

Thanks,

Alex.

This.

The only reason I answered is because my girlfriend is studying psychology and might have to do one of these next year. Karma and al that.

edit: Also, I'm sure it is deliberate, but a lot of these questions are the same, but worded slightly differently. That can be frustrating...

That's a pretty common way to measure honesty.

You actually had a few unique questions that other surveys haven't asked...so I did 'not' give you random data.

I'm losing my touch.

I've zoned in and out with day dreams of possessing comic book-esque abilities. Always fancied Bullseye's power set.

Sometimes I'd like clerical/white mage powers. I also have a little daydream about being some monk type character that can also unweave magic.

God, I love that idea. I was always hoping for a Star Trek tele. Teleport work and warping home would be awesome.

Better solution: move to Hawaii.
