Not because I dislike going to work on the holidays, mind you. That part doesn't bother me. It's the attitude of holiday travelers that gets me.

Like Mr. "A third party travel website where I booked my room showed a different picture than what my room looks like, so even though the description told an accurate story, I demand to be upgraded, despite the fact that those cost more*. Oh, you can't do that? Well, even though I won't let you tell me that the primary reason is that all rooms of that type are occupied, I'm going to call your manager and have you fired because I work at a five star hotel and you should be able to do everything I demand because I've been driving for twelve hours and it's now two in the morning."

I should seriously reevaluate my whole "I don't take vacations during prime holidays to be nice to my coworkers" policy. /sigh.

*To be fair, he was willing to pay more, but it was kind of irrelevant considering the whole "They're all occupied" thing he wouldn't let me tell him about.

I don't get when people complain about what their room looks like. You have a bed and a TV, deal with it.

I'm still amazed that I actually got to leave work on time this morning. Normal Holiday procedure is for me to have to stay over for a
twelve hour shift because the other lazy ?????? staff called in.

Technically, your website should show the accurate rooms, especially since quite a lot of travelers don't read descriptions.

I was originally slated to work tomorrow, then we found out that all but two of our twenty clients will be closed tomorrow, including the big one.

Everyone got told to enjoy the holidays except for one poor dude who had volunteered in exchange for getting two weeks off at Christmas.

It's not our website, though. It's a third party travel website.

That said, I've noted it for management so that they can deal with it.

Yep, I'd assumed you handled it correctly. Comp em, yell at vendors and move on.

That turkey is almost as big as the dragon. Is it a tiny dragon or is the bird a Roc?

Why should he comp them? The 3rd party website screwed up the service. He provided the customer with the room that was paid for. Depending on who the 3rd party was (Expedia, Hotwire, travelocity, etc), the customer may have paid them and Pold comping him would do nothing as he'd already be charged.

Biggest problem working the holidays is the customers. Had several today "Oh, its horrible that you have work and can't spend it with your family. Now gimme a large popcorn with extra butter"

Yeah, I think Orbitz is the only one we deal with where they don't pay up front. I could be wrong, though. Not only that, but after a customer acts like an ***, I'm much less inclined to give them jack crap.

Unfortunately, someone in one of those larger rooms checked out early, so my freaking coworker gave them a complimentary upgrade. Smiley: motz

Been a while since I've lost or gained, so there's that. Still hovering about 45-50lbs down from my highest weight. Since I know I'm not likely to do much during this time of year, I figure as long as I don't gain anything over the holidays, I can get back in the swing of it afterwards.

How does it smell when the Roc is cooking?

I really should have my skull crushed with a toilet seat for that one.

Ah ok, I didn't know the flow-through of the booking. It's likely that the traveler didn't either. If it was explained to them that it was an outside parties error, but that if one of those rooms became available, you'd let them have it, they would probably feel less upset at the hotel, whether or not you got them the other room. Either it would direct their anger appropriately at the third party or give them a positive experience where you corrected for an outside mistake.

That would have required him allowing me to speak long enough to tell him any of that without interruption. I couldn't even get to the part where I told him they were all booked. Smiley: tongue

I feel your pain; I worked for Travelocity and we got some DOOZYS that would call in on holidays. I remember a family in L.A. called in, 8 hours after dropping their grandmother off at LAX..without a ticket. Everyone had assumed someone else booked her a flight (they didn't) and now that she was at the airport, they didn't want to deal with the costs there that were substantially greater than those that were on our website. The big issue was thanks to 9/11, we couldn't do anything (we couldn't book flights that left in under 24 hours, those had to go through the airlines.)

Then I had the idiot who thought by pressing "buy" repeatedly, several times, that it would make his internet process his order faster. Being that the banks were closed, we couldn't call in to have the charges removed immediately. -.-

OH and one of my favorites was the guy who booked one of our nonrefundable trips (about 3 months ago) and wanted to cancel it because his wife was about to give birth....

I'm wondering what will happen at Christmass. Last couple of years Staff called in and stuck me with
a nice 12 hour shift suprise! I put in for New Years off. I bet I get turned down.
